GTA Online: PC players have encountered a dangerous vulnerability

GTA Online PC players have been affected by a serious vulnerability. Be careful if you continue playing before Rockstar fixes the problem.

A new vulnerability in the PC version of Grand Theft Auto Online has dire consequences for players. They can lose their progress as well as the money they have in the game. Worse, some accounts can get corrupted or banned. This “remote code execution”flaw was propagated through the developer of the North Online GTA cheat mod.

GTA Online PC players are experiencing a serious error

And it could affect anyone, not just players in the same multiplayer lobby as the attacker, according to a report by BleepingComputer. This means that anyone currently online and playing the game on PC would theoretically be vulnerable to this attack. Players on consoles are unaffected.

Rockstar Games, the studio behind the game, admitted to being aware of the problem earlier this week.

We are aware of potential new vulnerabilities in GTA Online for PC, which we will address in an upcoming scheduled security update.

Be careful if you continue playing before Rockstar fixes the issue.

Developer North removed the offending material on January 21st and issued an apology – the changelog says “misjudgment on my part in making this public.”While GTA Online does not block harmless community-created mods, those who distribute cheats or other hacks that affect the competitive balance of the game can get into trouble in the real world. Rockstar and its parent company Take-Two Interactive have taken legal action against cheat tool makers in the past. For example, the creator of the hack had to pay $150,000 and recover legal fees in 2019 to get infinite money.

According to some players, there is an effective workaround for corrupted accounts. You should delete the “Rockstar Games”folder from your Windows Documents folder before restarting the game, but the safest option is not to play the PC version until Rockstar fixes the situation. To be continued!
