HONOR Magic V With Folding Screen Wants To Compete With Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3

HONOR is shaping its Magic V, a foldable smartphone, to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3.

HONOR has just unveiled its Magic V folding screen smartphone, a first in the company’s history. Despite rumors of a 13,000 yuan (1,800 euros) tariff, interested users will probably be happy to know that the device’s public price ends up being just 9,999 yuan (or roughly 1,385 euros).

HONOR Announces Magic V

Like the Huawei Mate X2, the Magic V is based on a design similar to that of the Samsung Z Fold3, which is, after all, very standard today. The South Korean giant had a great nose that took advantage of two frankly calm years without competition, but today the latter is really present.

The HONOR Magic V features a 7.9-inch 2272 x 1984 pixel foldable display with a 90Hz refresh rate that the company claims is “wrinkle-free”. I hope this is true. There’s also a 6.45-inch external screen, ideal for one-handed use or for checking notifications, for example.

Both screens are slightly larger than those of the Z Fold3, and this could have a positive effect on the user experience. We’ll have to wait until we can test this thing in real-world conditions, but it makes sense.

HONOR also promises unparalleled sound quality with an IMAX and DTS:X Ultra certified system. Your ears should have a good time!

In addition, the Magic V is a little thinner than its main competitor, but probably not enough to make this a deciding factor for choosing this smartphone.

The camera module also looks very promising, with three 50MP sensors on the back. There is a main sensor, an ultra-wide sensor, and these two are definitely very good. The third is a “spread spectrum sensor”capable of picking up light slightly outside the visible spectrum. This technology is often used in astrophotography, but in theory it should improve the final image quality. It’s hard to imagine that HONOR only integrated this sensor for astrophotography.

In addition, each display has a 42-megapixel selfie sensor, bringing the total number of sensors to five.

The smartphone is also powered by the excellent Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. The device is powered by a 4750mAh battery (66W charging).

Customers can choose between 256GB or 512GB of storage with 12GB of RAM. However, it does not see the microSD port.

In this 2022, competition should be seriously organized in the folding screen smartphone segment. Oppo, HONOR, TCL and more will debut. Lately, we’ve been saying all the time that folding screen smartphones are going to be a big trend. The number of copies sold in 2021 was already impressive, there is no doubt that 2022 will be even better.
