Horizon Forbidden West Core, game leaked weeks before release

Just weeks before launch, it looks like the PS4 build of Horizon Forbidden West has been leaked online. Images of the game’s unfinished build were leaked to Twitter on Monday, but the posts were removed due to a message from the copyright holder. This further enhanced the credibility of these images.

VGC later confirmed that these images are genuine and that the build contains all of the core content planned for the final game, with the exception of some missing art assets.

Luckily, videos or spoiler footage from the game haven’t gone viral on the internet yet. PlayStation faced a similar situation earlier in 2020 when footage from The Last of Us Part II leaked online ahead of release. Sony will most likely try to avoid such a situation, and so far the situation with Horizon has not become so serious.

PS4 Horizon Forbidden West build leaked ahead of release

From the looks of it, the leaders were able to play this build of the game, which is almost complete. This would no doubt result in a lot of gameplay footage, but so far none of it has surfaced on Youtube, Twitter, or any other form of social media.

Horizon Forbidden West will be released across generations and will be available for both PS4 and PS5. Many in the comments section of the Twitter post complained that the graphics didn’t match the gameplay trailers. Shortly thereafter, several users pointed out that the screenshots were taken from a PS4 build of the game.

From what we’ve seen so far, Horizon Forbidden West looks like a true AAA showcase of what the PS5 is capable of. The footage and details of the game, leaked a month before launch, are probably not the most ideal situation for Guerilla and PlayStation. However, so far it looks like the situation is not as serious as The Last of Us Part II has been leaked.
