If you like widgets, specifically those that use HTML and JavaScript, then you know how powerful they can be. But the popular jailbreak settings that make them possible, such as Xen HTML and FrontBoard, are said to have limitations that HTMLWidget doesn’t.
Luckily for anyone who demands a little more from their widgets, a new jailbreak tweak called HTMLWidget from iOS developer SouthernGirlWhoCode makes them more interactive than ever.
According to the developer, users can apply HTML-based widgets to their device with little or no knowledge of HTML, and then apply them as native widgets in iOS 14. There is no limit to the number of widgets you can create and apply.
To add a widget, you can enter the “wiggle”mode on the home screen and use the widget’s built-in “+”button to add or create it.
After creating or using widgets, you can use the HTMLWidget application to view and manage all of your widgets. The app’s live preview feature lets you see how things will look before applying them permanently.
It’s worth noting that all the widgets you add or use with HTMLWidget are customizable. When you make changes, they are applied to your widget so that it reflects the changes you made.
Assuming you’re more familiar with HTML than most, the tweak comes with a built-in code editor that supports over 50 different syntax themes, meaning you can really get your hands dirty with customization if you’re into that sort of thing.
For developers who want to create and maintain HTMLWidget widgets, the tweak includes a built-in API. This means you are not limited to what comes with HTMLWidget, as developers are free to extend its capabilities and release their work as alternative downloads.
Note that you may need to run UICache and reboot your device for HTMLWidgets and the app to show up. Several jailbreak tweaks are capable of performing these simple functions.
