Elon Musk is already cleaning Twitter. Four major executives have already been fired.
According to The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post, after months of legal drama, Elon Musk has begun to take the reins of Twitter. Her first drastic step was to fire CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal and other senior executives.
Elon Musk is already cleaning Twitter
Elon Musk took his place on the throne shortly before the deadline. This week, he spent time at Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco, where he was able to rehire some employees. He also brought several Tesla engineers with him to help him “evaluate”the Twitter code, according to Bloomberg.
The completion of the deal will end a months-long legal battle that rocked Twitter hard, as the multibillionaire offered to buy the company for $44 billion in April, only to announce the acquisition weeks later. Elon Musk specifically noted the number of bots and fake accounts on the platform. Twitter’s lawyers later argued that this was just an excuse to renegotiate that commitment.
Four top managers have already been fired
But the completion of this acquisition is far from putting an end to internal turmoil. Elon Musk, who has criticized Twitter management and argued with Parag Agrawal, has already fired at least four top executives, including Vijay Gadde and Sean Edgett. The New York Times reports that “at least one”executive was escorted from the premises by security.
Elon Musk, who changed his Twitter bio to “Chief Twit,”has made clear his intentions to make big changes. In particular, he has stated in both public and private messages that he wants to soften Twitter’s moderation rules and does not like permanent bans. He is also expected to cut the payroll, although he told employees it would not go up to 75%.
The heart of the service could also change a lot under the leadership of Elon Musk. In addition to relaxing moderation rules, the American multibillionaire said he wants to make the Twitter algorithm open so that users can better understand his recommendations. At the same time, he also reassured advertisers, saying that he did not want to turn the platform into a real “rat race”. Twitter COO Sarah Personette tweeted that she had a “great conversation”with Elon Musk.
Elon Musk, who has often spoken of his desire to make Twitter “an accelerator for X, a universal app”like China’s WeChat, should also look for ways to increase non-ad revenue. He proposed a change to Twitter Blue and suggested the ability to charge companies for embedded tweets.
