Instagram introduces parental control plans. The first specialized tools should appear in March 2022.
A few months ago, we learned that Instagram was planning to develop a platform specifically for kids before seemingly deciding to put that project on hold. For parents who have teens on Instagram and are worried about what content their kids can see and interact with, Instagram is today announcing its readiness to bring some parental control features to its app.
Instagram unveils plans for parental controls
According to Instagram director Adam Mosseri, “Parents and other caregivers know what is best for their teens, which is why next March we plan to launch our first tools to help them guide and support their teens on Instagram. Parents and guardians will be able to see how much time their teens spend on Instagram and set time limits.”
The first tools should appear in March 2022.
Adam Mosseri goes on to give some indication of the specifics in question: “We are also going to offer teens a new option for their parents or guardians to know if they are reporting someone, thus giving parents the opportunity to discuss it with them. children. This will be the first version of these tools; we will continue to add more options over time.” Additional resources will also be available in the form of an education center that will contain tutorials, tips and more.
By the way, if you remember, a “take a break” feature was announced on Instagram some time ago. Today, this feature seems to be quite successful as the platform decided to activate it in a certain number of countries. It is now available in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. I hope that all these measures will allow both young and old people to be less dependent on the messaging platform.
