On Wednesday, Apple released iOS 16.1.2 to the public with minor improvements for iPhone users that should improve the user experience.
As an incremental update, iOS 16.1.2 does not contain any major changes, but rather bug fixes and improvements. In the official changelog, Apple says the update brings the following changes:
- Improved compatibility with wireless carriers.
- Optimized crash detection on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models.
Especially recommended for iPhone 14 and 14 Pro models.
The update is highly recommended for all iPhone users, especially those using iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, or iPhone 14 Pro Max due to crash detection optimizations.
Even if you don’t use any of the aforementioned phones, this update is still recommended.
While Apple doesn’t go into details about carrier compatibility in this update, it’s safe to assume that Apple is adding support for new wireless carriers around the world and optimizing existing ones, likely in terms of improved 5G performance to battery ratio.
How to get it
If you want to install iOS 16.1.2, you can find it under Settings → General → Software Update, where the over-the-air update (OTA) mechanism is located.
This update requires a Wi-Fi or 5G network connection to install, and your iPhone will restart after installing it.
Beware of Jailbreakers
If you’re waiting for a jailbreak, remember that it’s best to use the lowest firmware and avoid software updates to increase your chances of using a supported version if and when a new tool is released.
Apple’s recent updates have really tightened up iOS security, so this tip is more important now than ever. There is currently no jailbreak for any version of iOS or iPadOS 16.
