iPadOS 16 software allows you to zoom out on older iPad models, including Apple A12X and A12Z processors.
- What is happening? iPadOS 16 Beta 10 provides enhanced thumbnail customization support for older, smaller iPads released in 2018.
- Why care? Because this option was previously only available on the latest iPad Pro models with the Apple M1 processor.
- What to do? If you have a 12.9-inch iPad Pro, go to Settings → Display & Brightness → Display Scale → More Space to see how it works.
Zoomed Out Display option coming to smaller iPad
Magnify your iPad screen with the Screen Zoom feature, first introduced in iPadOS 13.
However, only the 12.9-inch screen of the flagship iPad Pro currently supports this option. But with iPadOS 16, Apple will bring this display setup to older, smaller 11-inch iPad Pro models equipped with A12X and A12Z chips.
Developer Steve Troughton-Smith noted on Twitter that the zoom out mode on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is still limited to the iPad Pro M1, but this will likely change in future betas to include the older 12.9-inch ones as well. inch models.
As noted by MacRumors, this setting was limited in earlier iPadOS 16 betas to the latest 12.9-inch iPad Pro with the M1 chip. So when iPadOS 16 comes out in October, you’ll be safe in terms of enabling the reduced display setting if the iPad Pro was released in 2018 or later.

What is display scaling on iPad? How it works?
The screen scaling feature gives you more screen real estate by basically scaling the screen resolution. As a result, you get more screen real estate for multitasking, making this mode especially handy for multitasking features like Stage Manager.
To zoom in on the screen using the zoom feature, go to Settings → Display & Brightness on a 12.9-inch iPad Pro and tap View under Display Zoom, then select Zoom in and tap Install.
In addition to this feature, iPadOS 16 (in fact, Apple will skip iPadOS 16.0 and go straight to iPadOS 16.1) will bring some much-needed changes to the Stage Manager feature, extending it to all iPad Pro models released in 2018.
Earlier beta versions of iPadOS 16 limited this multitasking feature of the M1-based iPad Pro. The Stage Manager will initially ship without support for external displays until Apple fixes a couple of rough edges.
