We are not far away from the announcement day of the iPhone 15 series. Apple could reveal the date of its fall event any time now. As per general consensus, Apple is expected to hold the event within a span of three weeks from now and the new iPhones will start shipping a week after that.
However, 9to5Mac reports that top-of-the-line iPhone 15 Pro Max might face delays of up to 3 to 4 weeks due to the new camera sensor which was not available in a timely manner. It remains no surprise by now that Apple is planning major camera upgrades across all iPhone 15 models.
Sony unable to deliver on time
While the vanilla models will pick up the 48-megapixel sensor, the biggest change will arrive in the high-end iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple is touted to bring the much anticipated Periscope lens to its most expensive iPhone this year.
Sony, the camera part supplier of Apple, will not be able to deliver the image sensor to be used in iPhone 15 Pro Max in time for Apple to ship the high-end iPhone with other models.
The new periscope lens will bring much better optical zoom capabilities than the currently offered 3x. iPhone 15 Pro, on the other hand, will not get a periscope lens this year. iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are set to gain improved ultra-wide and wide cameras but not the telephoto lens.
iPhone 15 Pro Max could be available by October 12
If we put the timeline into perspective, Apple could unveil the new iPhones by September 12 this year, as many rumors have pointed out. With the 3- weeks of delay expected in the iPhone 15 Pro Max variant, we could finally see it available by October 12 roughly.
This will not be the first when Apple has delayed a few variants of iPhones while announcing them together. iPhone 14 Plus was made available a few weeks after iPhone 14 launched. Similarly, iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max were also delayed when iPhone 12 series was launched back in 2021.
If rumors are to be believed, iPhone 15 series is shaping up to be a good upgrade this year. High-end Pro models are expected to arrive with the new Titanium frame as Apple is discarding the aluminum frame for a sturdier option. Moreover, the Pro iPhones will also get the new A17 chipset based on TSMC’s 3-nanometer fabrication process.
All iPhones will get a USB-C charging port this year due to the EU laws and rumors have also pointed to a major revamp for USB-C charging cables.
