If you want to protect your newly purchased iPhone 14 without bulking it up, the Pitaka MagEZ 3 case might be the perfect choice. This is the world’s thinnest and lightest case for the iPhone 14 series.
Pitaka goes out of his way to implement style and defense, two aspects that hardly go hand in hand. The case is made from aerospace grade aramid fiber and offers decent protection. I came across five Pitaka MagEZ Case 3 cases made for the iPhone 14 series and here’s what I think of them.
Note. The cases have been tested with the iPhone 13 as the iPhone 14 is not out yet.

Unpacking: Biodegradable packaging
In my experience, premium products always offer a premium unboxing experience. But do you know what could be better than a premium unboxing? The product comes in biodegradable packaging.
Pitaka MagEZ Case 3 packaging is 100% biodegradable.
The build quality of the packaging box is solid to ensure that your case is not damaged in transit. I love it when a brand makes a sincere effort to save the environment, rather than just using the environment as an excuse for bad packaging.
The packaging is minimal. It has an outer box with detailed product information. Then we have a reinforced paper box with the MagEZ Case 3, some paperwork, and Pitaka branded adjustment stickers to help improve the fit of the case if the need arises.
Build Quality: Made from aramid fiber.
The body of the Pitaka MagEZ 3 is made from aerospace grade aramid fiber, which is 5 times stronger than steel. This may sound too good to be true, but the catch here is that it only applies on an equal weight basis.
Pitaka claims that the MagEZ Case 3 is the lightest because the 600D variant is only 0.95mm thick and weighs 17.3 grams, while the 1500D variant is 1.05mm thick and weighs 22.3g. The “D”here stands for denier, a measure of the density of aramid yarn. 600D cases are thinner and lighter than 1500D cases.
Putting on a case does not add bulk to the iPhone, but rather makes it more comfortable and provides protection that a bare phone would not otherwise have. It fits the iPhone perfectly and has raised edges around the rear camera module to protect the camera from scratches when it’s resting on a table.
While the case protects your iPhone, it is a fingerprint magnet. It gets dirty after a short time of use and I have observed this with a wide range of carbon/aramid fiber products.
Basic daily protection
Since the MagEZ Case 3 is so thin and light, how protective is it? Pitaka doesn’t want to advertise their product falsely and has specified the MagEZ Case 3’s target audience on the product page.
It’s a great choice if you’re just looking for basic everyday protection, want a sleek case and cut down on carrying. This means you’re already taking good care of your iPhone and want to protect it from scratches, scuffs, and bumps.
But if you’re careless with your devices and drop them frequently, this may not be the ideal case for you.
Compatible with MagSafe
Pitaka MagEZ Case 3 supports wireless charging and is also compatible with MagSafe. This was made possible through the use of proprietary Pitaka MagSafe SlimBoard technology. Yes, I’m even puzzled by the fact that Pitaka could fit into MagSafe magnets in the 0.95mm form factor!
The MagSafe SlimBoard technology in the MagEZ 3 is a major improvement over its predecessor, being 27% thinner and 35% lighter. Let me remind you, it is thinner than a credit card!
I’m sure you won’t believe me. I didn’t believe it was possible either. To test this, I took the MagEZ Case 3 and connected it to the MagSafe charger. I didn’t use an iPhone in this test, and to my surprise, the case stuck to the MagSafe charger. It’s a really great integration.
Should I buy Pitaka MagEZ Case 3?
While most purchasing decisions are always subjective based on needs, there is no clear cut answer and they vary from user to user. The Pitaka MagEZ Case 3 is the perfect choice for users who take good care of their iPhone.
If you’re the type who drops your devices a lot, you might be better off with a bumper case or something that provides more protection. Also, the case has cutouts on the top, bottom and sides, exposing the device to weathering, etc.
All MagSafe-compatible accessories also work well with the MagEZ 3 case. So if you already own and use a MagSafe wallet, MagSafe battery, or any other third-party MagSafe accessories, you won’t have to worry about compatibility. At $59.99, the Pitaka MagEZ Case 3 isn’t very cheap, but it’s acceptable since aramid/carbon fiber accessories have been expensive for as long as I can remember.
