How to play Fortnite on iPhone and iPad

What you need to know

  • Fortnite is not currently available on the App Store and can only be downloaded if you have previously installed it on your Apple ID.
  • Epic Games, the developer of Fornite, is partnering with cloud gaming services like Xbox and Nvidia to bring Fortnite to iPhone.
  • You need a fast and stable internet connection to play Fortnite via cloud gaming.

The Epic Games vs. Apple battle is one that the gaming community won’t be forgetting anytime soon. Fortnite was removed from the App Store after the battle and gamers have been looking for ways to play the game on iPhone. What if I told you that you can now play Fortnite on your iPhone? Legally! Read along to find out how.

Play Fortnite on iPhone with Xbox Cloud Gaming

Thanks to the era of cloud gaming, you can now play games like Fornite on your iPhone without having to install them. The best part is that it won’t take up the interior space of your iPhone. Remember that you need an Xbox account to play Fortnite on iPhone with Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Note. Xbox Cloud Gaming is only available in select regions. Check the supported regions page to see if it’s available in your region. Even if your region isn’t listed, you can still use a VPN on your iPhone or iPad and access Xbox Cloud Gaming.

  1. Open any browser on your iPhone.
  2. Visit xbox.com/play.
  3. Tap the profile icon in the top right corner.
  4. Login/create a new account and then log in.
  5. Select Fortnite from the main screen. Find the game if you don’t find it.
  6. Tap Play.
  7. Select Continue Anyway.
  8. Wait for the game to load. After the game has loaded, it’s best to tilt your iPhone to get the best viewing angle.
  9. You can either log into your Fortnite account or skip the login process. If you choose to skip it, you will not be able to log into your account later.

That’s all! You can now go to the regular Fortnite login screen and start playing the game. Since the program is still in beta testing, you may encounter some user interface inconveniences. But it’s better than having nothing, right?

How to play Fortnite on iPhone and iPad with GeForce Now

Apart from Xbox Cloud Gaming, there is another cloud gaming giant helping Fortnite on iPhone. With Nvidia GeForce Now, you can play Fortnite on your iPhone and iPad. Here’s how:

Note. As with Xbox Cloud Gaming, Nvidia GeForce Now is limited to a few regions as it is still in beta. However, you can use a VPN on your iPhone or iPad and access the service.

  1. Open Safari. This feature is currently only available in Safari.
  2. Visit the official GeForce Now page.
  3. You will be prompted to set up the GeForce Now web app on your device’s home screen. You can check out our guide to learn how to add a website to your iPhone home screen.
  4. Now launch the GeForce Now web app.
  5. Click Agree and Continue and select Browse Games.
  6. Log in / create an ID and enter the program.
  7. If you are logging in for the first time, you will need to verify your ID.
  8. Once verified, search for Fortnite → click Play.
  9. You will be prompted to select a plan. Here we choose the free plan
  10. After choosing a plan, connect your Epic account. Follow the onscreen instructions and connect your Epic Games ID.
  11. Finally, select Allow.
  12. Now click “Play”again. Wait for the game to load.

That’s all! You can now continue playing the game as usual.

Download Fortnite on iPhone via the App Store

Cloud gaming is arguably the next best thing in the gaming industry. However, this experience will only be useful if you have super-fast internet. In addition, you may be required to subscribe to these cloud gaming services.

So, if you can access Fortnite from the App Store, wouldn’t that make your life easier? However, there is a caveat. You can only access the game if you have previously installed the game using your Apple ID.

  1. Open the app store.
  2. Tap your profile photo in the top right corner.
  3. Select Purchased.
  4. Now search for Fortnite.
  5. Tap the download icon next to Fortnite to install it again.

After reinstalling, you can continue to play Fortnite as before.

Note. As mentioned earlier, this method will only work if you have previously downloaded the game. If you’ve never done this before, here’s another workaround.

Play Fortnite on iPhone with Apple Family Sharing.

Note. In order to play Fortnite on your iPhone, even if you haven’t installed it before, you first need to link your Apple ID to someone else’s ID via Family Sharing. You’ll also be required to provide your payment methods when using Family Sharing, and members will be able to use your payment method to purchase apps or services using your payment method.

  1. Once Family Sharing is set up, open Settings.
  2. Tap your name at the top.
  3. Select Family Sharing.
  4. Click “Purchase Sharing”and turn it on.
  5. Now open the App Store and go to the Purchased section.
  6. Tap a shared user account.
  7. Find Fortnite.
  8. Now click the download icon next to the game.

That’s all!
