How to Use Emoji as iPhone Lock Screen Wallpaper in iOS 16

iOS 16 has redesigned the iPhone lock screen and added several new features such as tiny widgets, different clock fonts, saving multiple lock screens and easily switching between them, and more.

Another nice little addition is the use of emoji as lock screen and home screen wallpaper. So, if there is a certain emoji or a set of emojis that you like, you can easily make a wallpaper out of them with different colors and patterns.

Use emoji as your iPhone wallpaper in iOS 16

Follow these steps to use up to six emoji as your iPhone lock screen and home screen wallpaper:

1) Go to “Settings”and click “Wallpaper”.

2) Click Add New Wallpaper.

3) Touch emoticons.

4) Select the emoji you want to use as wallpaper. You have the option to select up to six emoji. Once selected, tap X to close the emoji picker.

5) Touch the three dots icon > Background to select a background color.

6) By default, emoticons are displayed as a small grid. Swipe left to select Medium Mesh, Coarse Mesh, Rings, or Spiral.

7) Optional: You can add widgets, change the color and font of the clock, and even add a tiny widget next to the date by simply clicking on the appropriate boxes.

8) When everything is set up the way you like it, click Add. You can select “Set as wallpaper pair”(which sets it for both the lock screen and home screen) or tap “Customize Home Screen”to further personalize the home screen.

Switch between different emoji lock screens

You can add multiple emoji lock screens by repeating the steps above. Once you have several, wake up your iPhone by touching the locked screen or lifting your device. When iPhone is unlocked with Face ID or Touch ID, tap the lock screen to enter editing mode. Finally, swipe left or right and tap the desired lock screen to set it.

Change emoji wallpaper

You can edit the emoji lock screen wallpaper at any time. For example, if you used a flower emoji, you can change it to something else later.

Follow these steps to change the emoji lock screen wallpaper emoji:

1) Wake up your iPhone, unlock it and press the lock screen to enter editing mode.

2) Tap “Customize”below the emoji lock screen.

3) Tap the emoji button on the bottom left to change emoji, add new emoji (up to six) or remove existing emoji from the wallpaper.

4) You can continue editing the wallpaper by choosing a different background, grid size, widgets, etc. All steps are the same as described in the previous section.

5) When you get the look you want, click Done > Set as Wallpaper Pair (or Customize Home Screen).
