Many players get stuck creating shaders for The Last of Us PC and need a fix. This port of the game has been a long time coming for PC, and with its recent release, even more fans have joined the hype. And even though it’s out now, most people can’t play it simply because of the time it takes to create shaders. So, here is why this issue occurs and how you can fix it.
How to fix Last of Us PC build shaders taking time?
There is currently no official way to fix this error. But thanks to Reddit user u/S5AurA for a possible fix that might help most users. You can check their post here.
- Install the Oodle 2.9.5 decompression library. Apparently, the decompression library used in the game is version 2.9.6, which has memory leak issues. So you can just replace it with the previous version of the library. This file is currently available from two games: Warframe and FIFA 23.
- Just paste the oo2core_9_win64.dll file into the root directory of your game.
And if you don’t want to experiment with the fix above, then there are a few general tricks you can try to speed up the shader building process.
- Update your drivers: This is pretty much the only thing that works well for many users. Make sure your system and graphics drivers are up to date. Once you update them, reboot your system and then launch the game. Shaders should now build faster.
- Wait: this isn’t exactly a fix, but several users have said in various posts about this issue that it gets faster after 40%.
Finally, if 2 hours have not passed since the launch of the game. After that, you can return the game. Steam allows you to refund money for games that you have not played for more than 2 hours.
