How to update a PS5 controller using a Windows PC

Putting on the PS5 controller is very easy and fast through the console. Did you know that this operation can be done through a Windows PC? Here’s how.

If your PS5 controller starts behaving strangely, there may be a DualSense update that can fix this or that problem. If you have a PlayStation 5, the update process is simple: just connect your controller to your console and wait a few seconds. On the other hand, if you don’t have a console because you use a controller to play on a PC, for example, you can use a Windows PC to update. This is also an option to be aware of in the rare cases where the process does not work on PS5.

How to update PS5 DualSense controller via Windows

First, use the USB cable to connect the controller to the computer. Then you should download the Sony DualSense Firmware Updater software. This link takes you to the help page, just scroll down and click the blue download button.

After downloading and installing the utility on your Windows PC, launch the program and follow the on-screen instructions. From there, your DualSense controller will refresh in a few seconds.

Do not turn off the computer or disconnect the USB cable while the update is in progress. Ideally, leave the controller on a flat surface during the process. If you hold it or play with it while you work, the connection to the PC may be lost.

Once the update is complete, your controller is ready to use. If you’re using it with a console, you won’t need to update to PS5. And everything is fine until the next firmware version is released.
