How to update your social media profiles

Today there are many social networks, each of which has a profile that can be managed properly. Here’s how to do it on major platforms.

You may spend a lot of time every day on various social networks, but have you checked the status of your profile pages lately? From Twitter to Slack, these profiles tell the rest of the world who you are, and it’s important that this information is up to date.

In this guide, you will learn how to update your profiles on the main social networks. We focus on the web versions of the platforms as they often display more, but the same options are available on the mobile apps.

How to edit your twitter profile

After logging into Twitter, click the profile button on the left, then select Edit Profile. Images are very important for profiles: there is an avatar image, a circular image (400 x 400 pixels recommended) and a header image (1500 x 500 pixels recommended).

There is also a lot of information to fill in: name, biography, location, website, date of birth. Be careful with the date of birth, this is information that thieves can take advantage of.

Also, don’t forget about pinned tweets. Click on the three little dots next to any tweet and then select Pin to your profile. After that, the tweet will be at the top of the list.

How to edit your Instagram profile

People use Instagram for a variety of reasons, both personal and professional. Therefore, profiles can be very different. On the site, click on your profile picture, then Profile and Edit Profile.

You have your name and profile picture at the top, along with your website and bio.

Instagram also offers to save certain stories to your profile. This is done from the mobile app. On the profile page, click the Create button in the Story Highlights section to select a story, create a category, and choose a cover.

How to edit your Facebook profile

Facebook is a platform that gives you more options for your profile. You can say almost everything about yourself. Click on your name in the top right corner of the web interface and then either Edit Cover or Edit Profile.

Everything is very clear. You have a biography to describe yourself with 101 characters, as well as an About Me section for your education and career, where you’ve lived, your relationship status, and more. In the “About Us”section, you can also click “More About You”and “Add Name Pronunciation”to make sure everyone knows how to pronounce your name.

You can also control who sees what information on your profile.

How to edit your Slack profile

Slack needs a strong profile system so everyone knows who you are. To find your profile, click on your profile picture in the top right corner of your Slack workspace, then select Profile and Edit Profile.

There’s quite a lot of information there, from your role in a work company to your time zone, date of birth, pronunciation of your name, and more. You can also add the department you work for and the name of your manager.

You also have a long list of other profiles you can complete: Facebook, GitHub, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, and YouTube.

How to Edit Your LinkedIn Profile

LinkedIn is used to establish connections and networks, your profile plays a big role in this. Click the “You”button on the top bar, then “View Profile”.

The options are overwhelming, but you’ll find basics, jobs, and education, as well as a profile picture and other cover art. Profiles can be divided into different sections. Click Add Section to Profile to do so.

Scroll down to find recommendations, whether it’s a list of your skills or a brief description of yourself.

How to edit your Google profile

Google isn’t really a social network per se, but you still have a public profile that appears in various places: Google Docs comments, Google Maps reviews, Gmail emails, etc. To change your profile, go to your Google account page and sign in.

Click Personal Information and you can edit the basic information. You will also find the “Go to the About Me Page”link below. There you can enter additional information about yourself and decide who can see what information.
