How to disable autocorrect on iPhone and iPad

Most Apple users like to use AutoCorrect on their iPhones and iPads to catch common typos. As a result, it’s enabled by default and works well for most.

However, this is not always the most reliable feature – sometimes the error corrector is the error creator. If you’d rather go without the possibility of those pesky bugs, here are three ways to disable AutoCorrect in a few quick steps.

How to disable autocorrect on iPhone and iPad

  • Open “Settings”and click “General”.
  • Tap Keyboard.
  • Disable autocorrect.

Now your iPhone will not automatically change or correct a single word.

If you change your mind, follow the steps above to turn this option back on. You can use this trick any time you want to turn autocorrect on or off.

How to Disable AutoCorrect for Certain Words on iPhone and iPad

  1. Open “Settings”and click “General”.
  2. Tap Keyboard. On the next screen, click “Text Replacement”.
  3. Tap the plus sign (+).
  4. In the Phrase and Label fields, enter the same word and click Save.

This ensures that AutoCorrect does not replace it with another word when you type the original.

Using this feature, you can create text shortcuts that allow you to type a sentence or phrase using multiple characters.

Note. If you are using a hardware keyboard with an iPad, go to Settings → General → Keyboard → Hardware Keyboards → disable auto-correction.

Use normal typing instead of slide input

In iOS 13 and later, iPhone’s built-in keyboard also supports slide typing. This allows you to swipe across multiple keys for input. It is similar to AutoCorrect in that it automatically converts swear words and other phrases into swear words.

To disable typing slide, go to Settings → General → Keyboard → turn off Delete Typing Slide with Word.

You can also just tap on each individual letter instead of swiping across the keyboard.

We hope this helped you turn off AutoCorrect on your iPhone or iPad. If you want to brighten things up, we have a list of the best keyboards for your iOS device. They offer features like theme support, built-in clipboards, and more.

In addition, the keyboard in iOS 14 has received improvements, such as the ability to search for emoji by name.
