How to disable Twitter sound when you refresh the feed

Twitter recently added a sound every time you refresh your news feed. Here’s how to turn it off if you don’t need it.

Change can be scary. Most of the time we don’t like it. Everything must always stay in place, so we know how things work and how to use them. When a company like Twitter goes so far as to change the sound that plays when you refresh your feed, the sky falls on our heads. Literally. Or almost. If you don’t want this sound to play every time you refresh your news feed, you can disable it permanently.

According to an article by The Verge, Twitter began rolling out the sound to iOS and Android versions of its apps in early summer. This sound would have rolled out faster on iOS than on Android, but it has long been firmly established on every smartphone around the world. With strangeness on Pixels, it looks like where only the sound is heard at the start of the refresh. The one at the end of the operation, no.

How to turn off the Twitter feed update sound

Turning off the sound is very easy. Of course, it will not play if your iPhone or Android smartphone is in silent mode, as all sounds will be muted in this case. On iPhone, simply switch to silent mode using the dedicated button. On Android, press one of the volume buttons to open the volume controls, tap Ringtone, then Vibrate or Silent.

This method only works if your entire phone is on silent. If you want to keep the sounds but not the Twitter sound, you can turn off the sounds for the Twitter app only. To do this, swipe right on the main Twitter screen to open the side menu and tap Settings & Privacy. Then tap Accessibility, display, and languages, then choose Display (Android) or Display and Sounds (iOS). Turn off “Sound Effects”in the “Sound”section and you will no longer hear the update sound from your Twitter feed.
