How to Transfer Your Witcher 3 Save From PS4 to PS5, Xbox, and PC (Next Gen Update)
You can transfer The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt saves between platforms, as well as between different generations of the same platform, using the new “cloud save”feature. So with cloud save, PlayStation backwards compatibility and Xbox Smart Delivery, you can not only easily transfer your save files to next generation consoles, but also continue to play on any platform like PC, Xbox or PlayStation. Here’s how to do it:
- Update The Witcher 3 to “Patch 4”
- Beginning of the game
- Click “Download Game”in the menu.
- Then click the “Cross Progress”button.
- This will be “L2″on PlayStation (PS4 and PS5).
- Use “LT”on Xbox and the “C”button on PC.
- Then connect your “GOG”account.
- Now you will have access to “Cross Progression”
- For this, you will also receive free in-game rewards.
- Previous saves will not be automatically uploaded to the cloud
- Now just go to Save Game.
- Click on “empty save slot”.
- The new save will now be uploaded to the cloud.
- You can also quickly jump to autosave
- Now open the game on your next generation PS5, Xbox Series X/S or PC.
- Click “My Rewards”.
- Sign in with the same GOG account
- Click Download Game.
- Here you will find a new save file with a cloud icon.
How to transfer saves from the previous generation to the next version of the update in The Witcher 3
If you already own any version of the game, the next generation update will be completely free. Launch the previous generation game and log into your account. Now your last manual save, autosave file and quick save file will be saved in the cloud.
If you don’t own the original game, you can buy The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition at a later date. This is a special game for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Will trophies or achievements be carried over?
No, trophies and achievements don’t carry over, so if you want to earn them again from the beginning, you’ll have to start a new save. Achievements are platform dependent and therefore do not carry over when transferring a save between platforms.
The game doesn’t recognize my saves and can’t load them
According to official CD Projekt RED support: “If you are currently playing GOTY/Complete Edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and have previously played the regular version, please note that console save files are incompatible between the two versions of the game (GOTY vs. regular version), as they are separate products on console systems.”
In short, to keep cross progression working, you have to make sure that the same game content is available on the platforms you need. So you can load the save files of the base game in GOTY/Complete Edition and everything will work. But you won’t be able to load a GOTY/Complete Edition save into the main game. This is because the base game will not include paid DLC content like the GOTY/Complete Edition. You will be able to install all extensions and DLC separately. So if it’s important to use, you’ll have to buy the paid DLC for the base game.
