So, you’ve made a great video for Instagram. Now what? To get the most views, you need to promote it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Eat, sleep, Coil-peat.
Luckily, sharing videos to your Instagram and Facebook stories is easy. Learn about a few different ways below, including how to group and plan your stories ahead of time. (Yes, even for swapping drums!)
Yes! You can share your or someone else’s Instagram feed to your story directly from the Instagram app. You can also schedule videos in your story to post later using some additional tools.
Post your own video to Instagram Stories
Step 1: choose a drum
In the Instagram app, scroll to find the video you want to share on your story.
Step 2. Click the “Share”button.
This is the paper airplane icon. To start creating a story with this feed right now, click Add Feed to Your Story.
You can also copy the video link from here to schedule it later in Hootsuite. A little later I will tell you how to do this.
Step 3: Create your Instagram story
Clicking on a video in their story will take your followers to the full-length video on your profile, but some may not know this. To get people to watch your entire video or encourage them to like it, add a “Click here”sticker or other indication where they should click.
You can also add whatever you want to your story as usual, including text, GIFs, Instagram stickers, and more.
Step 4: Share your story
Once you’re done, share it by clicking “Your Story”at the bottom.
Posting someone else’s video to Instagram Stories
Step 1: Tap the share icon below the video.
If you’re scrolling through your Instagram feed, the Share button is below the video. If you’re viewing in full screen mode, it’s on the right.

Step 2: Create your Instagram story
Important: Always credit the original creator when sharing someone else’s video. Their username will appear at the bottom of the frame, but it’s quite small and, depending on your background color, may be illegible.
Show your respect by playing it safe and tagging their username either on a link sticker or in text. Bonus: They’ll get an Instagram notification from you and can re-share your story on their account.
Step 3: Share your story
Click “Your Story”or “Close Friends”to post it.
Okay, but want to post later? There are several ways to schedule reels with Hootsuite.
Planning a video for Instagram Stories
First, get a free 30 day trial of Hootsuite. Made? Then set up Instagram post notifications in Hootsuite. Now you are ready.
See below for detailed step-by-step instructions or watch this short video to learn the basics:
Step 1: Download the video
To get a Reel video, tap the Share icon and then Copy Link. Paste this link to Instagram Reels download app and then save the video file to your phone.
Step 2: Create your story
Create a new Instagram Story post in Hootsuite.
In the text box, enter any actual text you want to add to the story, such as the username of the creator. Hootsuite automatically copies everything you write here to your clipboard so you can quickly add it to your story before sharing. Add a URL and a note to yourself to add a link sticker when it’s time to post, for example.
Then upload the Reel video you just saved to the media section.
Step 3: Schedule Your Instagram Story
Click Schedule for later. Choose a specific time, or select a time recommended by Hootsuite in the Best Time to Post box. They are personalized for your account based on when your audience is online and your interaction history.
Step 4: Post your story
When the time is right, you will receive a notification on your phone to post the story. If you have a group account with multiple users, you’ll see if a colleague has posted it.
If you want to share more than Reel videos, including candid, original Instagram Story videos, you can also use Hootsuite to remind you when to post. You don’t need a finished story ready to be published.
In this case, use the text box to write down a reminder for yourself or instructions for those who will create the story. It can be as simple as “Remind everyone that the promotion ends tomorrow.”Anything that makes sense to you.
When you receive a mobile post notification, you’ll have your notes right there to use to create your Instagram story. Make your candid video and share it – boom, you’re done.
Scheduling Instagram Reels keeps your content calendar consistent, folks.
Custom post your own video to Facebook Stories
Step 1: Copy the link of the video you want to share
Tap the Share icon on the reel, then Copy Link.
Step 2: Download the video
Here’s how to reload the Reel message so you don’t have to scroll up.
Step 3. Post your story on Facebook.
Open Facebook and create a new story with the video you just saved. Don’t forget to credit the original creator and tag them in your story.
Auto post your own video to Facebook stories
Yes, there is a much easier way to share videos with stories on Facebook: automatically!
You only need to set up the automatic sharing of stories from Instagram to Facebook once. Then all your future stories, including the videos you share, will also appear on Facebook.
Step 1: Link your Instagram and Facebook accounts.
To enable automatic sharing, connect your Instagram account to your Facebook profile or Page. Learn about the different ways to do this depending on your account type.
Step 2. In the Instagram app, go to “Settings”.
Tap the menu icon in the top right corner, then “Settings”.
Step 3. Go to the Meta Account Center.
Scroll down and click on the blue “Account Center”link. Then click “Profile Sharing”.
Step 4: Turn on automatic sharing of stories on Instagram.
Turn on the Instagram Story option and now your Instagram stories will automatically show up on your Facebook page as well.
You can choose to share only your story, posts, or videos on Facebook, or enable all three. I recommend automatically sharing all three for maximum visibility.
Posting someone else’s video in stories on Facebook
The process is the same as posting your own video as a story on Facebook:
- Step 1: Tap the share icon, then copy the link.
- Step 2: Download the Reel Roller
- Step 3: Upload it as a new Facebook story (attributing the original creator!)
However, setting up automatic story sharing from Instagram to Facebook is the easiest way, whether you’re sharing your own content or someone else’s.
