How to Build a Link Tree for Instagram: A 2023 Guide

If you came here looking for instructions on how to create an Instagram link tree, you probably already know that Instagram has a rather restrictive link exchange policy.

The platform doesn’t allow you to add links to posts in the feed – aside from stories, the biography section is the only place where all Instagram users can add a link. One link, to be exact.

Link trees allow you to make the most of this precious real estate. By creating a link tree for Instagram, you turn your biolink into a hub for more links. And with more links, you can drive traffic exactly where you want it—whether it’s your store, a signup form, new content, or an important business update.

Read on for step-by-step instructions on how to build an Instagram link tree, as well as some inspiring examples of great link trees.

What is an Instagram link tree?

The Instagram Link Tree is a simple landing page accessible from your Instagram bio that includes multiple links. They can lead to your website, store, blog, anywhere.

Since most users access Instagram’s link trees from their mobile devices, link tree landing pages should be easy to navigate. Most just have a few bold buttons.

Here is an example of an Instagram link tree from @meghantelpner.

Now that you know what a link tree is and why it’s worth it, it’s time to build it!

We will look at two ways to build an Instagram link tree:

  1. Using Linktr.ee, a specialized tool for creating Instagram biolinks.
  2. Create a custom landing page.

Let’s start!

How to Make an Instagram Link Tree with Hootsuite

Did you know that you can create a unique link tree for Instagram and TikTok with Hootsuite?

To get started, sign in to your Hootsuite account and navigate to the “Create”section of your dashboard. There select Hootbio from the menu.

Note. Hootbio is available to Hootsuite Team, Business, and Enterprise plan users. If you are a Professional plan user, upgrade now to get access to this feature.

To create your Hootbio page, start with some basic profile information:

  • Profile name. This will appear as a header at the top of the page.
  • Profile description. This is the subtitle text below your profile name.
  • Profile picture. We recommend using an image that matches the branding of your Instagram account so that your bio page looks familiar and in line with the brand.
  • Your website. This is where you create the URL for your link on the bio page. We will notify you if someone has already claimed the URL.

Then add your links. Each link must include a URL and text that will appear on the button. You can also add images to links, but this feature is optional.

To reorder links on a page, simply drag and drop them using the triple bar icon.

When you’re done, click “Update”in the top right corner of the page.

You can also direct followers to your other social media accounts or your inbox using dedicated buttons.

Go to the Social menu section to set up links for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Messenger, and email.

To save your changes, click “Update”in the upper right corner of the toolbar.

In the Design section, you can customize the design of your Hootbio page. Choose from our recommended color themes, or customize the font, button, and background colors to make the page truly yours.

When you’re done – you guessed it – click Refresh in the top right corner of the screen.

That’s all! Your Hootbio page is ready. To start using it, copy the link displayed in the top right corner of the toolbar and paste it into your Instagram and TikTok bio. You can update your bio at any time, but please note that URL editing is limited to once every six months.
