An important part of combat in God Of War Ragnarok is focusing on colored rings before attacking the enemy. How to Counter Enemy Ring Colors in God Of War Ragnarok
There are three colors of rings that you will encounter before an enemy attack: yellow, blue, and red. Each of them needs a different reaction from the character you are playing as (Kratos or Atreus).
yellow rings
This enemy attack can be parried with a shield, but if you don’t time it right, it can break your defense. Tap the L1 button at the right moment to parry the blow, and then proceed with immediate attacks.
The Dauntless Shield will help you with this because it can stun the attacker and buff your next Shield Strike. The point is to time the parry correctly to improve this effect. So don’t forget to press L1 right before hitting.
red rings
The opponent’s attack cannot be blocked or parried. So you have to dodge and evade him whenever he approaches. Press X during transition to dodge. Press X twice to dodge a roll attack.
Double blue rings
Some special enemies will have a blue ring attack, which means they cannot be blocked, but they can be interrupted. Double-tap the L1 button on your controller to counter this for a shield hit that will interrupt them. After that, continue to strike back at the enemy.
Enemies with shields will block all attacks from the front. Therefore, you need to find an alternate angle of attack, or you can quickly press L1 twice to perform a shield block break. This will make your enemy vulnerable.
