During a mission of favor in the service of Asgard, you will stumble upon Althiof’s drilling rig. A platform near the water made of wood. The place looks like some sort of wood flooring factory. You will need to find your way to the chimney and stop the black smoke. Completing the quest will reward you with Nidavellir Ore, which is used to craft the finest Nidavellir Armor. Here is an easy way to solve this puzzle.
Solving puzzle with Althiof’s drilling rig
After reaching the drilling rig, climb onto the platform with the blue flag. You will see black smoke in the distance, the goal is to stop it. After climbing onto the platform, climb further with the chain and you will find yourself on a platform with a wheel and a lift.
The first step is to use the Blade of Chaos weapon and pull the lever under the elevator. This will lower the elevator. Then go right and turn the wheel back to bring down another platform. This will allow you to cross this section and you will reach a gate locked with red wooden planks. There is a red container there that can explode, breaking the gate and allowing you to go to the left side of the rig. Refer to both screenshots of the game above.
Once you cross the elevator, use the Blade of Chaos to target the red container and pull. It will explode, breaking the red boards. Turn left and find another set of red wooden planks and climb up using the Blade of Chaos. Go straight to the left and you will see an increase in the area of the wheel, jump down and turn the wheel back. This will restore the original position of the wooden platforms that we changed earlier.
Next, climb back from the place where you fell and go to the left, there is a metal door. Just walk up and press Circle and Kratos will open it. Jump down and aim at the red barrel to break the blocked paths. Go through the left entrance and go upstairs, find the white carving on the column. Keep going up to the left until you get to the other side.
Once upstairs, look down for a breakable wall. Press Circle and go down. Once again you will see the left mechanism, use the Blade of Chaos to pull it back so it can break the lock and the elevator can go up. Climb back to the left, this will take you back to the wheel area.
From the wheel, look to the left, climb up and go straight to the right. Jump over the wooden platform and swing to the other side. Climb straight up and this will lead you to the chimney. Get close and click on the circle to stop the fire and this favor will be performed. Also check the corners for collectibles, signs, and chests.
