In the previous tutorial, we showed our readers how they can install TrollStore on various devices using the deprecated TrollInstaller method, but if you have a checkm8 compatible arm64 device (iPhone X or older), you can use Ramdisk’s SSH method to install TrollStore on your device.
Personally, I find the TrollHelperOTA method much faster and easier to use than the Ramdisk SSH method, but there are a few situations where you might need or want to use the Ramisk SSH method instead, such as when you’re trying to install TrollStore on iOS or iPadOS 15.6 beta 1-5.
The Ramdisk SSH method to install TrollStore works on all checkm8 devices running any version of iOS or iPadOS supported by TrollStore, including iOS and iPadOS 14.0-15.4.1, iOS and iPadOS 15.5 Beta 1-4, and iOS and iPadOS 15.6 Beta 1-. 5.
What is a trollstore?
This guide would be wrong if it didn’t first cover the basics of what TrollStore is and isn’t, so let’s do that first.
TrollStore is a unique app that can constantly download apps to your device with a CoreTrust bug first discovered by security researcher Linus Henze. The CoreTrust bug affects iOS and iPadOS 14.0-15.4.1, iOS and iPadOS 15.5 Beta 1-4, and iOS and iPadOS 15.6 Beta 1-5. Apple fixed the bug in the iOS and iPadOS 15.5 public release and release candidate, but then reinstated the bug again in the iOS and iPadOS 15.6 beta before finally fixing it in the iOS and iPadOS 15.6 public release and release candidate.
The permanent signature capabilities of TrollStore are very powerful. They work in much the same way as the seven-day signing opportunities of regular sideloading apps like AltStore and Sideloady, except that once you sign an app, you no longer need to re-sign it and can continue to use it indefinitely.
TrollStore can sign any file. ipa or. tipa; the former is an iPhone application file and the latter is a file type specially designed by TrollStore developer Lars Froeder for use with his application. You can use TrollStore not only to install regular apps, but also modded apps and jailbreak apps.
TrollStore itself is not a jailbreak tool, but it can be used to install jailbreak tools. It’s also worth noting that apps signed with TrollStore have elevated privileges, allowing them to modify the system in ways that regular apps can’t. Hooray for customization!
Installing TrollStore using the Ramdisk SSH method requires a Mac or Linux computer. If you think you’re ready to install TrollStore using Ramdisk’s SSH method, you can move on to the next section where we’ll discuss the steps required to do so.
Installing TrollStore via SSH Ramdisk
To install TrollStore on a compatible device using Ramdisk’s SSH method, follow the steps below:
1) Open a terminal window and run the following command:
git clone https://github.com/verygenericname/SSHRD_Script --recursive && cd SSHRD_Script
2) Connect your checkm8 compatible device to your computer with an MFi certified USB-A to Lightning cable.
3) Put your device into DFU mode.
4) In DFU mode, run the following command:
./sshrd.sh <iOS or iPadOS version> TrollStore <useless system app>
Note. Replace <iOS or iPadOS version> with your version (without the <> symbols), and then replace <useless system app> with the name of a system app you don’t use, such as the Tips app (without the <> symbols).
5) Next, run the following command:
./sshrd.sh boot
Note. Soon you will see a verbose upload with a troll face in ASCII text. After a while, your device will reboot.
6) When the device boots up again, launch the useless system app you selected earlier from the home screen:
Note. We’re running the Tips app because that’s the app we put in the command in step 4.
7) Click the “Install TrollStore”button:
Note. The Tips app (or whatever app you choose) has been replaced with the TrollStore helper interface shown above. When you click “Install TrollStore”, your device will restart.
When your device reboots, TrollStore will appear on the home screen.
Congratulations, you are all done!
Conclusion
The Ramdisk SSH method to install TrollStore is a bit more complicated than the TrollHelperOTA method, but it works with all checkm8 compliant devices. Which method to use is up to you.
