Despite having dynamic desktops, we are limited to using old screensavers on MacBooks. However, Apple allows you to use a third party app to help you choose from preset images or videos. To help you with that, in this article, I have explained how you can set a video as your screensaver on your Mac.
How to Use Video as Screensaver on Mac
Follow the instructions below to use a video clip as a splash screen for macOS Ventura and Monterey.
On macOS Ventura
- Download and install SaveHollywood on your Mac.
- Click on the Apple logo and launch System Preferences.
- Click Screensaver → Save Hollywood → Options.
- Click + sign.
- Choose a video. Navigate to the video source and select a video or multiple videos.
- Click Add. Note. Adjust the screen settings according to your preferences.
- Press OK to confirm.
Note. The custom splash screen can be checked using the preview function. You can also change the screen saver start time by opening System Preferences → scrolling down to Lock Screen → changing Start Screen Saver when it is inactive.
On macOS Monterey
- Download and install the SaveHollywood app.
- Open System Preferences → Desktop & Screen Saver.
- Choose Screen Saver → Save Hollywood → Screen Saver Options.
- Click + sign.
- Choose a video. Navigate to the video source and select a video or multiple videos.
- Click Add. Note. Adjust the screen settings according to your preferences.
- Press OK to confirm.
Note. The custom splash screen can be checked with the preview function by hovering over the video. You can also get the option to change the start time of the screensaver by checking the “Launch the screensaver when it’s inactive”checkbox.
