Most of you have probably wondered at least once who is viewing your social media profiles. While most platforms prevent you from seeing who has viewed your profile, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, TikTok is one of the few places where you can track profile visitors. And, unlike LinkedIn, you don’t have to pay for this privilege.
The feature is useful for many reasons. If you’re a creator looking to grow your following, knowing who your visitors are can help you shape future content around those demographics. For casual users, seeing who has interacted with your profile may just satisfy your curiosity, but it can also help you know if someone you know is interested in you or help you identify possible stalkers.
While TikTok previously showed people who have viewed your profile, it removed this feature before implementing an improved “Profile View History”in 2022. The new version is available on both Android and iOS apps.
Before using the TikTok profile history view feature
Before proceeding, it is important to note a few things. If you don’t see this feature or don’t get the expected results, the answer might be one of the following:
- You must be 16 years of age or older to see your profile’s browsing history.
- You must have less than 5000 followers to see your profile’s browsing history.
- Only you can see your profile’s browsing history – no one else.
- You can only view your profile browsing history for the last 30 days.
- Only accounts that have enabled their profile’s browsing history will show up in your profile’s browsing history.
- By enabling your profile browsing history, you will appear in the profile browsing history for other accounts that have also enabled this feature.
- You cannot see your profile browsing history if your account is closed.
- You can still appear in someone else’s profile browsing history if your account is closed but your profile browsing history is enabled.
- You won’t be able to see your profile’s browsing history after you disable this feature, but all results will return when you re-enable it.
- Other accounts will not be able to see you in their profile’s browsing history after you disable this feature, but you will reappear as soon as you enable the feature if your browsing history was less than 30 days old.
How to enable profile view for your TikTok account
By default, TikTok won’t show you who has viewed your profile unless you agree, and there are several ways to turn on profile views.
From your privacy settings
Open the menu (three-line icon) on the Profile tab, click Settings & Privacy, and then select Privacy. Then click “Profile Views”under “Security”and turn on “Profile Browsing History”.
From your profile view page
Even if you have not yet agreed to view your profile, you can still access a page where you will see all the accounts that have verified your profile. From there, you can activate this feature. Tap the eye icon next to the menu button on the Profile tab to open the profile view page, then tap the Enable button.
From your mailbox
You may notice in the TikTok inbox tab some activity alerts for “profile views”when one or more people have viewed your profile. Click on one of these alerts in the “Actions”section to go directly to the profile view page, then click the “Enable”button.
How to see who has seen your TikTok profile
You can tap the eye icon next to the menu button on the Profile tab to open the profile view page. If you have new profile views that you haven’t seen yet, the eye will be the profile picture for the last account that visited your profile, and a numeric icon will show how many profile views are new.
On the profile views page, you can see who has viewed your profile with the Follow button and a link to their profile.
Plus, you’ll get activity alerts in your inbox whenever someone checks your profile. If this feature is running, you will see who viewed your profile and when in the Activity section. Clicking on the alert will open the profile view page.
How to turn off profile view for your TikTok account
There are several ways to turn off profile viewing on your account, and they are the same as enabling this feature. As in Method 1 above, open the menu on the Profile tab, then go to Settings & Privacy -> Privacy -> Profile Views. Then turn off “Profile Browsing History”.
As in methods 2 and 3 above, tap the eye icon (or the last viewer profile picture with a digital icon) in the Profiles tab to open the profile views. Then, tap the settings gear to open the shortcut for the Profile View History toggle, turn it off, and close the window. You can also get to the setting by opening the activity alert in your inbox.
How to prevent others from seeing your visits
While all of this has been mentioned above, I will reiterate how to prevent other TikTok accounts from seeing that you have viewed their profile. First, making your account private is not enough. Although you won’t see anyone in your profile’s browsing history, you can still appear in their history.
The main way to prevent other TikTok users from seeing your name as a profile visitor is to turn off your profile’s browsing history. If you turn it back on, you’ll reappear in your profile browsing history for other accounts if you’ve viewed their account less than 30 days ago.
Another way is to collect more than 5000 followers by completely removing this feature from your account.
