How to Factory Reset Apple AirPods and AirPods Pro
Before we start resetting AirPods, it’s very important to know what happens when you do it. We have divided the whole process into four simple steps to make things easier for you. Resetting both AirPods and AirPods Pro involves the same steps.
Put your AirPods in the charging case
The charging case is the perfect part of your AirPods or AirPods Pro headphones. This is what comes with the headphones in the box. When the headphones are not in use, it is recommended to place them in these cases to keep them safe and able to charge.
The first step for them is to place the earbuds in the charging case. The case also needs to be recharged regularly, so make sure the case is charged when you’re about to drop it.
A charging case that is low on power may not reset AirPods effectively. It can also increase the battery life of your AirPods.
Once the AirPods are in the case, close the lid of the AirPods case and set it aside for about a minute. We recommend doing this because if the headphones are empty or empty, they will get at least a small power boost when you put them aside to rest.
Disable your AirPods
The next step here is to turn off your AirPods and host Apple devices. This could be an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, or any other Apple device compatible enough to host AirPods.
- Keep your Apple smartphone handy when using AirPods. Open the charging case so your Apple device can detect them, then go to Settings.

Perform a factory reset

- Open the charging case for your AirPods and leave it that way. Follow the indicator light.
- Now locate the settings button, which is usually found on the back of the AirPods charging case. A tiny imprint marks the location of this small round button on the back of the AirPods case.
- Press and hold the setting button for a few seconds until the flashing white light on the charging case turns on. You won’t hear a click, but you should feel the button go in slightly.
- You should see a blinking yellow light for about 15 seconds before it changes to white.
Note. For most AirPod models, this indicator is located on the front of the case, while for the original generation it is inside the charging case. When active, you will see a blinking green light.
Connect AirPods to Host Device
The last step in the reset process is to connect your AirPods to an Apple device that you have placed away from your AirPods.
- Now you can take your Apple smartphone and place it next to your AirPods to reconnect them.
- Keep the lid of your AirPods charging case open and wait while your Apple iPhone restarts the setup process.
- You will be able to access the Bluetooth function in the system settings menu. After that, you are done with the setup and pairing.
- You’ll be asked to go through an initialization process where you’ll need to answer a few basic questions about AirPods’ gesture and noise control buttons and Siri AI assistant, as well as compatibility checks for AirPods Pro and other Bluetooth-based accessories.

What if I don’t have an Apple device?
If you are using AirPods with an Android device, the steps to reset AirPods are the same.
