How to Download the tvOS 16 Public Beta on Apple TV

While iOS 16 and macOS 13 were the stars of WWDC 2022, that doesn’t mean that nothing exciting happened during the event.

tvOS 16 has also been released alongside the latest version of Apple’s operating systems and brings features such as compatibility with Nintendo Switch controllers, HDR 10+ support, video previews, and support for Apple Fitness+.

How to get the tvOS 16 public beta on all Apple TV models

While the beta version of the software allows you to explore future features, it is also possible to encounter many bugs. And if you’re planning on installing the tvOS 16 public beta on your primary Apple TV, I personally won’t suggest that.

Though if you like experimenting with new features ahead of your peers and don’t mind some bugs, welcome on board. You first need to enroll in the Apple Software Beta Program. Let’s learn how to do it.

Register for the Apple Software Beta Program

Note. If you are already registered for beta software testing, skip this step.

  1. Open Safari on a Mac, iPhone or iPad and go to beta.apple.com.
  2. Then click “Register”to register.
  3. Enter your Apple ID and password.
  4. Now sign in and accept the terms.

How to register for the tvOS 16 public beta

  1. Launch Settings on your Apple TV and click Accounts.
  2. Select iCloud, iTunes, App Store, or Game Center.
  3. Sign in with the same Apple ID you used for the public beta program.
  4. Then press Menu on the Siri Remote and press Menu again.
  5. Select “Systems”and click “Software Updates”.
  6. Turn on the “Get public betas”option.
  7. Click “Get Public Betas”and accept the terms.

How to install the tvOS 16 public beta

  1. Open your Apple TV settings.
  2. Click System → Software Updates.
  3. Here select “Update Software”.
  4. Finally, click Download and Install.
