Razer Leviathan V2 X Compact Soundbar Improves $100 PC and Phone Sound

On Tuesday, Razer announced a soundbar that it claims is suitable for movies, music and games, and can also connect to computers, iPhones and Android phones. Measuring 15.7 inches (400mm) long, the Leviathan V2 X is designed to fit under desktop monitors and is a cheaper, less powerful $250 version of Razer’s Leviathan V2 that includes a soundbar and subwoofer.

According to Razer, the Leviathan V2 X can reach 90 dB at 3.3 feet (1 meter). The gaming peripheral and PC maker also claims a frequency response of 85-20,000 Hz, which is slightly higher on the low end. By comparison, the more expensive Leviathan V2, which includes a full-range speaker, tweeter and passive radiator, plus a subwoofer and THX Spatial Audio, claims 45-20,000Hz.

The new Leviathan V2 X is not built to sound as solid as its brother, but includes two 2 x 2.0 x 4.0 inch (2 x 48 x 95 mm) full-range drivers and a pair of 2 x 2 passive radiators, 0 x 4.1 inches (2 x 48 x 105 mm).

The Razer Soundbar is powered by USB-C and can connect via Bluetooth 5.0. It works with iPhones and Android phones through the Razer Audio app, which also offers control of the soundbar’s 10-band EQ and lighting effects. Alternatively, you can use the Razer Synapse desktop app to install an optional playback device, allowing you to switch between PC and smartphone audio by pressing a dedicated button on the top of the soundbar.

Like most Razer products, the Leviathan V2 X has optional RGB lighting. There are 14 separate zones for different effects, including reaction to what’s happening in supported PC games and synchronization with other Razer RGB products.

The Leviathan V2 X costs $100 and goes on sale September 28th. While audiophiles will want to look for higher quality audio solutions, the Leviathan V2 X is a more affordable option for users who want an easy way to add some extra oomph to their computer sound with a device that can also work well with phones.
