The Playdate Console Catalog Store is getting its first update. Five new titles appear (four games).
A few weeks ago, Panic officially announced the opening of its game store for the Playdate console. A platform called “Catalog”makes it easy to buy and install games on a hand-operated console like any store, but it’s more than a welcome addition for owners of a small yellow car. And today, with its first update, there are new titles.
Playdate Console Catalog Store Gets First Update
The Catalog Play Store just received its first major update since its launch, with no fewer than five new games joining the ecosystem in total, including a productivity app. The biggest game in this new wave is Core Fault, a survival game where you control a mining droid to gather resources while dodging not-so-friendly aliens.
That being said, the real star of these new titles is probably the Crankulator, which, as the name suggests, is a calculator that uses a crank to enter values. You can even use a synthetic voice to perform calculations in a much more modern Speak & Math manner.

Other additions include the flight simulation game Gravity Express, a solitaire mahjong adaptation of Sparrow Solitaire, and the ghostly puzzle game Life’s Too Short. Prizes range from $1 for Life is Too Short to $10 for Gravity Express and Sparrow Solitaire. And, as with the original game selection, these should be impulse purchases, to say the least.
The catalog selection is still very limited, with only 21 titles. By comparison, the first “season”included with Playdate included 24 games. However, this first addition may give some idea of what to expect in the future – and in particular, a rather modest but steady stream of more or less original experiences developing around the console’s black and white screen and its unusual controls. -. These titles obviously won’t replace masterclasses like the highly anticipated next Legend of Zelda, but that’s not the goal. These games are great for when you’re waiting for the bus or taking a break from work.
