In iOS 14, Apple has integrated widgets on the iPhone home screen. With iOS 16, the Cupertino company wants you to do the same with the lock screen. With this update, you can create multiple lock screens that can open at any time, and each lock screen can contain up to five different widgets: a grid of four squares below the clock and a text widget at the top. To check the options available to you, touch and hold the lock screen, touch the Customize button, and touch the widget area to view a list of available widgets.
Apple has done a very good job of choosing some basic widgets, but as always, it’s the third-party apps that are the most interesting. Although lock screen widgets are still very limited in functionality – for example, it is impossible to display photos or other media files – there are already dozens of applications that offer lock screen widgets.
