Madame Web: Sydney Sweeney prepares to enter Sony’s Marvel Universe

American actress Sydney Sweeney joined Dakota Johnson in the casting of the film Madame Web.

Following his acclaimed performances in the HBO series The White Lotus and Euphoria, Sidney Sweeney was hired by Sony Pictures Entertainment for an as-yet-unknown role in Madame Web, one of Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man feature films. Accustomed to roles as a blond, light-eyed high schooler, she could be the new Gwen Stacy in the movies, as Dakota Johnson will be a modernized version of Cassandra Webb, a superhero close to Spider-Woman.

Sydney Sweeney and Dakota Johnson, a unique duo for Madame Web

Highly sought after all over Hollywood, Sydney Sweeney has been considering several offers in recent weeks, but the opportunity to join Dakota Johnson in what was to be Sony’s first all-female film in the Marvel Universe was too good a chance to pass up. For the record, S.J. Clarkson is on track to direct Madame Web. Matt Sazama and Burke Sharpless wrote the screenplay, while Kerem Sanga also wrote an earlier cut.
