Mastercard and World Food Program support vulnerable children during Ramadan

Mastercard is helping vulnerable students during Ramadan by donating the equivalent of a canteen meal for every Amazon transaction through Mastercard.

With the help of Amazon, Mastercard and the World Food Program (WFP), they decided to feed less than a million schoolchildren during Ramadan. For every Amazon transaction in the United Arab Emirates made with Mastercard, Mastercard donates the cost of a school lunch through the World Food Program. This initiative will last throughout Ramadan, which ends on May 1, 2022. In total, Mastercard and WFP hope to donate the equivalent of one million meals to vulnerable schoolchildren in the region.

According to Mustafa Kassem, Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Mastercard MENA, “Mastercard and WFP are helping communities around the world take action to end the cycle of hunger and poverty for future generations.” This partnership with WFP focuses on the transformative power of canteen food, which can improve children’s health, cognitive development, access to education and future life incomes.”

And Magid Yahya, WFP Representative in the Gulf States, added: “As the number of people suffering from food insecurity grows exponentially due to conflict, climate change and the effects of Covid-19, every day millions of children around the world go to school on empty stomach. We are excited to partner with Mastercard and Amazon during this month of Ramadan to ensure that vulnerable children receive nutritious food and can continue their education and their lives.”

Since 2012, Mastercard and its partners have contributed at least $33.4 million to the World Food Program through marketing campaigns, fundraising, events, emergency aid, employee gifts, and sharing experiences.
