Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne Remake announced by Remedy Entertainment

Remedy Entertainment has partnered with Rockstar Games to remake two of the most iconic action games of the 2000s, Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. The original game is arguably one of the most influential games of all time and made Remedy Entertainment famous, while the sequel is one of the most underrated games of all time.

Remedy will remake games for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S using the studio’s own engine, Northlight. This engine has been used in the most recent Remedy games, including Control. The game’s development budget will be funded by Rockstar Games, and according to a press release, it will be in line with Remedy’s typical production of AAA games.

The game is still in the concept stage, which means it will be a while before we see more of the game, much less a release date window. The game will be released only on PC and current generation consoles and will not be released on the latest generation of consoles.

Remedy Entertainment is arguably one of the busiest studios in the industry right now with several projects in various stages of development. The studio recently announced a sequel to Alan Wake and Remedy was also confirmed to be working on a sequel to Control along with a multiplayer spin-off dubbed Project Condor.

The Max Payne remakes will be published by Rockstar Games as they were also the publishers of the original trilogy. Although the sequel was not as financially successful as the original, it was widely regarded as one of the best action games ever made and deserved to be in the spotlight.

The franchise has been put on hold since the release of Max Payne 3, developed and published by Rockstar Games in 2012. One can only speculate if this is a test run to gauge interest in the franchise for a new game, but for now, a remake is just as good news.
