Meta cuts the price of its Quest Pro VR headset

Meta is cutting prices on its VR goggles. So the Quest Pro is $999 from March 5th.

The $1,500 price tag for the original Meta Quest Pro headset was a major barrier to adoption, but this will soon cease to be an issue, or no longer be an issue. Mark Zuckerberg revealed on his Instagram channel that the Quest Pro price will drop to $999 starting March 5th. And if you don’t need such a high-end VR headset, know that the 256GB Quest will cost $429, just $30 more than the 128GB version.

This price cut is ahead of the expected release of the next generation Quest headset in a few months. With that in mind, the more affordable Quest 2 could help the Meta melt its stock before the new model arrives. However, if you’re completely satisfied with the current options, it’s an easier way to get started in offline VR while having plenty of apps and games to choose from. On the downside, Meta raised prices in August to dampen rising production costs.

So the Quest Pro is $999 from March 5th.

Another element to consider. This price cut also reflects the Meta’s difficulty in pivoting to the Metaverse. While the Menlo Park firm remains fully committed to the concept and allocates 20% of its 2023 spending to its Reality Labs division, the division continues to lose billions of dollars every quarter. More affordable prices could increase the number of headset owners and, accordingly, help the American giant to accept Horizon Worlds and other projects.
