The turn-based tactical game developed by Leikir Studio for Dotemu has been officially delayed and will be released next year on Nintendo Switch and PC.
Announced last June at Summer Game Fest, Metal Slug Tactics reunites the familiar faces of Marco, Eri, Fio and Tarma as they lead a squad of peregrine falcons to another battlefield where classic side-scrolling run and gunfire from the series gives way to fast-paced and strategic combat. on the map in a checkerboard pattern. Skill trees, perks, and an adrenaline system that fuels attacks were promised for Metal Slug Tactics, which was originally scheduled for this year.

However, plans changed despite development going smoothly. To announce the delay of Metal Slug Tactics, publisher Dotemu said:
Marco, Eri, Fio and Tarma are hard at work making Metal Slug Tactics as explosive as possible when released, but the team needs a little more time in the workshop to prepare for the upcoming battles.

Combined with beautiful pixel art and fluid animation that accurately reflects the series’ timeless aesthetic, these episodes feature Marco, Eri, Fio, and Tarma on the front lines, heading into battle from the wink-filled headquarters of the series’ history. The team returns to Metal Slug Tactics with their signature arsenal, including the trusty heavy machine gun and the devastating Slugnoid SVX-15D mecha, for a new tactical fight.
Metal Slug Tactics will release in 2023 on Nintendo Switch and PC.
