Mojang doesn’t want anything to do with NFT in Minecraft, but the studio is looking into how the technology develops.
Don’t expect to be able to purchase any non-fungible token (NFT) to be proudly displayed on a Minecraft server in the near future. Studio Mojang is clearly against NFT. “[To] provide Minecraft players with a secure and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies cannot be integrated into our Minecraft server and client applications, nor can they be used to create NFTs associated with any game-related content, including worlds, skins, character items. or other mods,” explains the developer in a press release.
Mojang wants nothing to do with NFTs in Minecraft
Minecraft has a market where people can sell their creations. Mojang explains that some companies have started offering game-related NFTs. If it was indeed possible, the studio is not involved in such practices: “Each of these applications of NFTs or other blockchain technology creates scarcity-based digital property. and an exception that goes against Minecraft’s values of inclusion and co-op play. NFTs are not inclusive and create a have-not-have scenario. For the studio, everyone should have access to the same features and content: “However, NFTs can create scarcity and exclusion patterns that go against our principles and the spirit of Minecraft.”
Mojang also says it is wary of the highly speculative nature of NFTs. With millions of very young players playing Minecraft, NFT support isn’t exactly welcome either. “The speculative pricing and investment mentality around NFT is secondary to the game itself and encourages profit making, which is completely inconsistent with the long-term joy and success of our players.”
but the studio is studying the evolution of technology
Between the intense controversy, even the aversion on the part of the players to NFTs and blockchain, a cryptocurrency market that continues to fall, and the proliferation of hacks, the Mojang studio and its parent company Microsoft are probably right not to fill this niche. A decision that many other players in the video game industry have already made. That being said, Mojang is definitely not abandoning the blockchain. The studio says it is monitoring the evolution of the technology to “determine whether it will provide a more secure experience in the future or other convenient and inclusive in-game applications.”
