In fact, Apple’s headset may be announced in 2022, but will only be available for purchase in 2023.
Last week, a report hinted that Apple could be gearing up to launch its mixed reality headset sometime in 2022. Before you start jumping to the ceiling, know that this can only be advertising. Indeed, the appearance of the long-awaited device may occur much later. At least that’s what Mark Gurman thinks in his Power On newsletter.
Apple headset could be announced in 2022
But why prepare a helmet, announce and launch later? According to an American journalist, there are several reasons that could explain why the helmet won’t be released until 2022. One of those reasons is that the Cupertino-based company will have to work with various partners and governments around the world. to prepare certain items, such as prescriptions to fix optics, and with certain partners to ship components that neither they nor Apple have ever supplied before.
Available for purchase only in 2023
As to why the Apple brand plans to announce its headset first before selling it, it could be due to leaks. Today, it is very common to see products leak long before or just before they are launched. To prevent this long-awaited headset from being introduced ahead of time and competitors stealing the idea before the official announcement of the device, Apple announces it first before pushing it to the market.
In any case, no one knows how much time may elapse between the said announcement and the actual launch. Some already claim that this is enough for the first Apple Watch with that name. According to Mark Gurman, at least 227 days elapsed between the official announcement and marketing. In other words, it’s possible that the helmet will be announced in 2022, but interested buyers won’t be able to buy it until 2023.
