Netflix and CD Projekt Red have released the first trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an animated series that takes you to the streets of Night City.
Netflix and CD Projekt Red have just unveiled the very first trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the animated series based on the Cyberpunk 2077 video game. The two organizations made the project official in 2020 and have been working on its development since 2018. I can tell that expectations are high, and not just for video game fans.
Netflix and CD Projekt Red unveil the first trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
This 10 part story revolves around a street kid turned mercenary. All of this, of course, takes place in Night City, “a city of the future obsessed with technology and body modification,” according to the description that accompanies the video posted on the Netflix YouTube channel. CD Projekt Red is producing this project with Rafal Xhaky as showrunner – The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077 – but Japanese company Studio Trigger is handling the animation.
An animated series that will take you back to the streets of Night City.
If the name Studio Trigger means anything to you, it’s because it’s the latter that we owe to series like Kill la Kill or even Promare, and we have to admit that Edgerunners is very similar to what this studio is better at. Better yet, an added guarantee of success if we can say the series will be produced by Studio Trigger founder Hiroyuki Imaishi, with Hiromi Wakabayashi in charge of character design. Meanwhile, the soundtrack will be composed by Akira Yamaoka – Silent Hill. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is expected to hit the streaming platform sometime in September.
Either way, this should perfectly round out the universe we’ve been able to discover in Cyberpunk 2077. A few more months of patience before we can (re-)plunge into the streets of Night City.
