Netflix is launching Mystery Box so kids can discover new content they might love.
If the streaming platform Netflix seems to be developing its catalog more, the features are not missed, although they are more discreet. New features should be coming very soon, especially in the subscription offer and account management. Today there is a novelty and it may appeal to children.
Netflix launches Mystery Box for kids
Finding new content to watch on Netflix isn’t easy. The same is true for children. And sometimes children are even more indecisive than adults. But with the arrival of the new “Mystery Box”feature for Netflix Kids, the decision is up to the algorithm.
Similar to the “Read Something”option for adult accounts, the Mystery Box feature selects content that the child has not yet watched. And parents can rest easy: selections, whether it’s a movie or a series, from this Mystery Box don’t appear out of nowhere either. The algorithm is based on content already viewed to suggest titles that kids might like.
To discover new content they might like
To test the Mystery Box, simply select a sub-profile on Netflix on the platform of your choice. Then go to the “Favorites”line at the top of the main page. There you will see the “Mystery Box”option with a selection of new titles.
When it comes to the kids catalog, Netflix has more competition than ever. Its main competitor is obviously Disney+, which plans to spend at least $32 billion on content in fiscal 2022. Hulu, HBOMax, and Apple TV+ also offer a children’s catalog. Last year, Netflix acquired several major licenses, in particular, we are thinking about the Roald Dahl Story Company. But in the current context of cost reduction after the historic loss of subscribers earlier in the year, we should be more wary of the platform. Several children’s content that was in production was canceled recently, including Wings of Fire hosted by Meghan Markle and Ava DuVernay.
