After months of rumors and teasing, the National Football League has launched a new video streaming service. Unfortunately, the new service has limitations, as it has fallen into a tangled mess of arrangements with different services.
NFL+ replaces the NFL Game Pass, which offered more utility but cost $99.99 per year. NFL+ costs $4.99/month or $39.99/year. TechCrunch reports that NFL Game Pass subscribers will be automatically moved to NFL+.
The new service “offers access to live out-of-market preseason games, live local and prime-time regular and postseason games (phone and tablet only), local and national live audio for each game, NFL Network on-demand shows, movies NFL. archives and more,” the NFL said in a press release.
The “phone and tablet only”note for regular season primetime and postseason live streaming is a big limitation here. This means it’s not a replacement for regular broadcasts if you want to watch them on TV. To watch these games on a game console, smart TV, or streaming console, you’ll need something completely different: an NFL Sunday Ticket subscription.
As reported earlier on Monday, several tech companies, including Google and Apple, are claiming ownership of the Sunday ticket. The NFL will choose a partner later this year. Thus, the dust has not yet settled in front of NFL fans who need a reliable streaming solution.
