Abandoned by Disney after the closure of Blue Sky Studios, the LGBTQ+ themed animated film Nimona is no longer cancelled.
The adaptation of the New York Times best-selling graphic novel by N. D. Stevenson, which was supposed to be directed by Patrick Osborne but is now directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane (Spies in Disguise), will debut on the streaming platform Netflix in 2023. The voice cast with Chloë Grace Moretz (Mother/Android), Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal) and Eugene Li Yang (Spring Bloom) is retained.
In Nimon, Knight Ballister the Bold is accused of a crime he didn’t commit, and the only person who can help prove his innocence is a teenage werewolf who could also be the monster he swore to kill. The action takes place in a techno-medieval world unlike anything animation has ever created. This is a comprehensive story about the labels we give people and about a werewolf who refuses to be defined by anyone.

Netflix collaborated with Annapurna Pictures on Nimona when production began early last year. Roy Lee, Karen Ryan and Julie Zachary are producing, Robert L. Baird, Megan Ellison and Andrew Millstein are executive producing, and Double Negative (DNEG) is animating.
