Nissan has been present in the world of Formula E as a partner of the e.dams team since its debut on the circuit in 2018. Today, the Japanese car manufacturer announces that it is no longer the sole partner of e.dams: the company has acquired the entire team and has become the sole and exclusive owner of. Nissan had a minority stake in the team before it was bought out from previous owners Olivier and Gregois Driot, children of Jean-Paul Driot, who founded the organization, according to The Race.

In 2021, Nissan announced a $17.6 billion investment to develop new electric vehicles and battery technologies over the next five years. Its goal is to develop at least 23 new electrified models by 2030 and have 40% of the electrified fleet in the US and China in the same year.
