TrollApps is a newly released app that TrollStore users can download and permanently sign into their iPhone or iPad to mimic the App Store-like experience of finding and downloading third-party apps.
Like the App Store, TrollApps tries to gather all available software options in one convenient place with “Get”buttons that users can click to download the selected app. The idea is to make it easier for users to find additional apps they can install through TrollStore.
We’ve tested TrollApps ourselves and found that while it certainly makes it easier to install TrollStore compatible apps, it seems to be lacking in some areas. For example, you can’t click on an item in the list of available apps to view information about that app, so instead you’re stuck looking at the app’s icon and name and trying to guess what the app does.
Also, the list of available apps is quite limited, but we suspect that this list will grow over time, especially since this is only the first day that TrollApps became available. For example, we see sourcelocation’s TrollTools system tuning app available on the TrollApps list, but not Soongyu Kwon’s competing Mugunghwa app.
It’s worth noting that Kwon and sourcelocation have been at the center of some online drama over the past couple of days, and if TrollApps hopes to become a realistic App Store-like experience for TrollStore users, then we hope it will take a neutral stand between the two developers and, will not hesitate to place both packages. Currently, the lack of a Mugunghwa proposal may simply be because developer TrollApps hasn’t gotten around to it yet, so it’s too early to tell.
Aside from the shortcomings noted above, it appears that TrollApps has the potential to improve the TrollStore user experience by making it easier for users to find and use downloadable, unpublished apps for their iPhone or iPad. We really hope that the app catalog will grow as new TrollStore compatible apps are released and we would love to see more details on each app, possibly with screenshots to accompany them.
It’s worth noting that TrollApps is only compatible with iOS and iPadOS 15.0 and later, so if you have an iOS or iPadOS 14 device, you won’t be able to use TrollApps.
You can learn more about TrollApps in the /r/jailbreak release post posted this morning. The project is available for download from the developer’s GitHub page.
