New GTA 6 rumors suggest that development is currently on hold, with a Red Dead Redemption remaster also in the works.

At the moment, GTA 6 is more of an urban legend than a real game that may be in development. At various points over the past few years, GTA 6 has either been in development or delayed, and sometimes even supposedly close to being announced – but nothing really happened. As far as we know, Grand Theft Auto 6 is something that Rockstar isn’t even discussing in the studio.

According to Rocsktar Mag, which has generally been a fairly reliable source of information in the past, Grand Theft Auto 6 development is clearly not in a good place. With the departure of co-founder and lead creative director Dan Houser, development on the game appears to have been restarted – with fresh, new ideas and changes to the original vision.

However, since none of this has actually been confirmed by Rockstar, this information should be taken with a grain of salt.

GTA 6 under development, Red Dead Redemption remaster on the way?

While the development of GTA 6 looks pretty chaotic, Rockstar may also have plans to bring the beloved game from 2010 to modern consoles and maybe even PC. According to Rockstar Mag, Rockstar is clearly putting a lot of chips in the remaster basket – a Red Dead Redemption remaster is also in the works.

The 2010 title was quite a bright spot for Rockstar and cemented their legacy as one of the best gaming storytellers – but the game is only available on PS3/Xbox 360 – and only available on newer consoles thanks to backwards compatibility or services like PlayStation now. Players on PC, they weren’t able to get to know John’s story, despite having access to the sequel, which is rather strange.

The Trilogy – Definitive Edition releases November 11, 2021.

While it makes sense for Rockstar to return to success with another guaranteed success, there’s something strange about a publisher releasing so many remasters but not releasing new ones.
