New Dell USB-C UltraSharp Monitor Combines 4K Screen and 4K Camera

Dell UltraSharp monitors have a long-standing reputation as a strong choice for office professionals and creatives, and USB-C options have proven to be among the most popular Mac monitors. Dell’s latest 32-inch UltraSharp was announced at the Consumer Electronics Show this week, and it doubles that legacy.

As noted, these monitors are made for professionals such as designers, marketers, etc., so a 4K screen with accurate color reproduction is essential. But these employees will spend a fair amount of time on video calls these days, so it looks like Dell is trying to make the product a more complete package for telecommuting professionals.

The IPS monitor offers a typical 2000:1 contrast ratio and supports the VESA DisplayHDR 400 standard with a maximum brightness of 400 nits. This unfortunately excludes the monitor from really serious video work, but the display should be good enough for most people doing most types of work.

In terms of color support, we’re looking at 100% sRGB and 98% DCI-P3. Response time at its fastest setting is 5ms, which would make it a decent 4K SDR gaming monitor, but unfortunately it tops out at 60Hz and doesn’t support variable refresh rates.

Its design is a bit odd; it has a thick bezel at the top, but only at the top, and a significant camera bump at the top. The camera is huge by the standards of most monitors and really stands out. But given that the camera is the defining feature of this monitor (there are plenty of USB-C 4K monitors out there at the moment), it makes sense.

Luckily, it has the key features it needs to appeal to its target audience, mostly Mac-using professionals: USB-C and support for display aggregation over a single connection. In a way, it’s quite specialized for certain categories of workers, but it’s worth looking into because it probably has one of the best built-in webcams of any monitor on the market, and its design is somewhat unusual for that.

Dell says the monitor, unfortunately called the U3223QZ, will be available starting March 29th. The price has not yet been announced.
