In 2020, NVIDIA announced to everyone’s surprise that it was going to buy ARM. For those who don’t know, ARM is the company responsible for the architecture of many processors, chips used by companies such as Qualcomm, Apple, Samsung, MediaTek, Huawei and many more. The acquisition of ARM would give NVIDIA “control”of the technology and would open up huge opportunities for the future of the American company.

At the same time, NVIDIA’s plan to acquire ARM met with strong opposition, and not only from other technology companies. Some governments were also ambivalent about the operation. So much so that, according to a recent Bloomberg report, the American founder may end up backing away from the acquisition. The report explains that NVIDIA has apparently told its partners that it does not expect this deal to go through.

The report also reveals that Softbank, the current owner of ARM, plans to take the company public, which would be another sign that this acquisition cannot go ahead or that it has already failed, and that Softbank is now looking for alternatives.
