Merging accounts in OW2 will allow players to transfer skins, emotes, achievements, stats, credits and more from Overwatch. But for many, account merging doesn’t work in Overwatch 2, and players fear losing years of progress, items, and more. Here are the possible reasons why and what you can do about it.
Overwatch 2 account merge issue not working
- The reason why progress and items like skins are missing from OW2 after the merge is because it could be a bug or a server error. If so, Blizzard will be actively working to resolve this issue. Because launch day issues can be overwhelming for developers, and this seems to be a widespread issue, it’s best to be patient until this issue is fixed on their end.
- If you haven’t confirmed the merge yet, be sure to double check the accounts you’re merging. This is because you will only have one chance to merge your console accounts.
- Please note that only one account can be linked per platform. So, if you have two accounts on PC, Xbox, PS, or Switch, you can only merge ONE of them, so make sure it’s the correct one. Read more here.
Adding to the merging issues are some instances where accounts merge on their own, resulting in players losing progress and items instantly. Some unknowingly merge the wrong accounts, causing players to lose their hard-earned years of progress. For these reasons, you can submit a ticket through Blizzard Support.

How do I change console accounts already linked to a Battle.net account before merging?
- When you click on the option to merge accounts in OW2, you will see a new window titled “Verify your account to merge”.
- Check if the account is correct or click the switch accounts prompt shown at the bottom of the screen.
If you’ve already linked your accounts but want to unlink your console accounts, you can do so. But in order to link a new account to your Battle.net account, there is a 1 year cooldown.
