While playing Minecraft online, there may come a time when you need your friend’s UUID. Or, if your friend is the host of the server, they may need yours. But if you are new to the game, you may not know what it is. So, here is everything you need to know about UUID in Minecraft, where to find it and how to use it.
What is UUID in Minecraft?
UUIDs in Minecraft stand for Universally Unique Identifiers, which are 128-bit numbers that the game uses to identify its users. Whenever a player buys Minecraft, they create a username. And thanks to the UUID, you have the ability to change it. Because before this system came along, your username was the only thing that identified you. The problem with this method was that once you create a username, you’ll be stuck with it. And the only way to change that is to get another copy of the game.
But thanks to UUID, this is no longer a problem. But even beyond changing the username, knowing a player’s UUID allows you to whitelist, blacklist, or block them if you have a server.
How to find your or someone else’s UUID in Minecraft?
There are two ways to find out someone’s UUID in Minecraft.
- Using the Minecraft API
- Using third party services
Here’s how they both work:
Using the Minecraft API
You can paste the following link in any browser to check the UUID of some players.
- https://api.mojang.com/users/profiles/minecraft/ (enter your username here)
Paste the link above and after “minecraft/”add your username or your friend’s username without a space. So, for example, if we were looking for our UUID, we would use the following link:
Using third party services
There are several third party websites such as NameMC, MCUUID and others that find the UUID for you. Just go to any of the websites and enter the username of the player you want to get the UUID for. The search will show you the results with their UUID.
How to use UUID in Minecraft
UUIDs basically have two uses. The first is for Minecraft, as explained above, to identify players. And the second is for server hosts to ban or manage players.
