Products that we have been able to test in the past with solar panels are usually either too small to charge a phone or too slow. The Sunmoove (the 6.5W version tested here) is presented as a wallet as it measures 14 x 10 x 2.5cm when folded and expands to 40cm when unfolded and is only 1cm thick. Useful mop item, it is waterproof except for the USB port located on the back.
In the box we received, there were 2 carabiners and suction cups, as well as a cable (charge + data) with 3 connectors: micro-USB, Type-C and Lightning. So we were able to hang it on the windows as well as on the backpack.
When it comes to charging, the manufacturer recommends charging the phone during very good weather and using a power bank instead when the weather is less generous. Even with heavy clouds, the solar charger was there, thanks to the red LED next to the USB port, we could know if it could charge our devices. From 1000 to 5000 mAh it takes 1 to 5 hours so we preferred to plug in the power bank while camping and then charge our laptop overnight, it worked really well!
As for the price of the Sunmoove, we will find the 6.5W version for 99.95€ and the higher power version (16W) for 169.95€ on the manufacturer’s website. Admittedly, this is much more than external batteries, but depending on the length of your vacation away from an electrical outlet, such an object can not only be environmentally friendly, but also save lives!
