‘Stranger Things’ Helped Netflix Dominate Streaming Rankings in 2022

Nielsen releases its Streaming Rankings for 2022. The industry will be booming in 2022, with Netflix still at the helm.

Let’s hope that with the pandemic behind us, and lockdowns with it, we are no longer under house arrest and spend less time in front of the screen to watch live streaming. However, this does not prevent some creations from standing out. Nielsen has shared the most popular series on US streaming platforms in 2022, and Stranger Things clearly stands out among them. Season 4 allowed Netflix to collect at least 52 billion minutes of viewing. In second place is NCIS with “only”38.1 billion minutes.

Nielsen has published the rating of streaming services for 2022.

Netflix topped the charts, but not overwhelmingly. If a platform has 10 series in the top 15 most watched series and 13 of the top 15 original creations, it really was some real competition. Disney+’s extensive catalog helped the giant take three places overall (with Encanto at number five) and its youngest-targeted offering gave it 10 spots in the movie rankings. Amazon Prime Video only has two titles in the top 15 original creations: The Boys and The Rings of Power.

However, Stranger Things failed to reach the record high. That honor goes to The Office, which was watched for 57.1 billion minutes thanks to a much higher number of episodes (192 vs. 34) and quarantine due to the pandemic. However, it’s still an impressive performance, and Nielsen says some shows have taken much less time to climb the charts than others. Encanto had a full year, while the Addams Family spin-off series took twelfth place on Wednesday at just 36 days.

Nielsen also found that all live streaming continues. In 2022, Americans spent over 19.4 million years streaming content, up 27% from the previous year. This is largely due to the much more varied services and, logically, a greater selection of original creations. The public is more inclined to enjoy Internet-only content rather than spending time on television content. And it helped elevate the entire streaming industry.
